Hong Kong - 7:49 AM (7:49 PM your EST)
If you ever have to go on a 16 hour flight over the pacific, wear something warm. The ride was comfortable, but I felt as though I was going to freeze to death entire time.
I cannot complain much though, the airline provided me with over 30 hours of scrubs and the office to watch on the little view-screen.
Hong Kong is beautiful, outside of the airport I can see three or four dragon pan ships floating in the water (not sure if thats for the tourists or the people here really style up the shipping yards)
I cannot stay here too long, since my flight to Chengdu leaves in about two hours, but I'm going to make an effort to come back here at some point in my life.
Bad news, the internet situation in the camp might not be what I expected, it could be a bit until I post something else up - but bear with I'll try to find a way to get back on here ASAP.
Now I am off to Chengdu, and then my long motorcycle ride to the earthquake zone starts!
Peace,
~WD

ReplyDeleteA message from Warren:
I am unable to access this blog site,at this time, due to restrictions from the government.
As soon as I am able, I will send another message via Mom.
From Warren: It is great to know I have loved ones who stand behind me on these crazy whims I go out on, alot that is going on right now is being filtered if I talk about it on facebook but! I will have the full story when I return home.
ReplyDeleteIt took a long time, and a lot of courage to come out here, but,eh I'm a Durrett and we live on the edge like that.
Before I start working in International Business or Law,where I would most likely be working with the extremely rich regions of China, I wanted to emerse myself with the people who live off of $2 a day, and hopefully this experience will guide my future path in order to bring wealth or prosperity or civil rights from the eastern regions to the forgotten places out here on the footsteps of Tibet. Plus, I got to play ping pong all day with these kids (got my butt whooped by an 8- year-old).
Talk with you soon,
Warren

ReplyDeleteFrom WARREN: This part of the eye opening experience: I thought it for a long tme,but never experienced it. How we are all essentially the same people despite political or ideological differences. Acknowledging that means we can find plurality between one another on so many levels, intead of heteroization by economic, political, or ideoligical trends. It's an amazing experience to bond with children from 20,000 miles away. They are eager to learn from me, and very open to me being there despite the fact I'm twice their height and a skin color they've never seen before. I have yet to experience discrimination, just curiosity and acceptance. That's why I'm having an amazing adventure and learning how to play ping pong!
We love and are praying for you. Can't wait to hear of all your adventures and see the pictures.
